Did Jesus suffer in Vain?

When Adam rebelled in the Garden, there were consequences as a result of his disobedience for all mankind. Sin, sickness and disease entered  the human race and we all are subject to the consequences of Adams sin.  The Tree of Life, (eternal life) was taken from man and the Tree of Knowledge of good and Evil became his fruit.  Sin reigned and sin MUST be punishment by death. "The wages of sin is death", Romans 6:23.

It is believed that Jesus was scourged, or flogged, thirty-nine times (Matthew 27:26). Under Jewish punishment, a prisoner could be given forty lashes; however, they usually only received thirty-nine, because forty was often fatal. (Deuteronomy 25:3)

Recently, I read that the thirty-nine lashes represent all the diseases known to mankind. At first, I found that hard to believe but later I was told that medically, it referred to 39 categories of sicknesses and diseases. Every time they laid the whip on Jesus' back--spitting His skin and ripping His muscles and tissue--HEALING was provided for every disease. Aids, cancer, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, parkinsons, and every disease on this earth has been defeated and conquered by the blood of Jesus Christ. This shows God's willingness to heal everyone.

Some people say, "God doesn't heal anymore."  But the Bible tells us "Jesus is the SAME yesterday, today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8) Because He made a blood covenant, He doesn't change, and the blood covenant includes healing.  Salvation doesn't just mean to be forgiven; it also means to be made WHOLE in every way, body, soul and spirit.

The topic of healing can provoke many doubts.  Even Jesus could not heal in His own hometown because of their UNBELIEF, but it didn't mean that he wasn't willing.  Remember the man with leprosy and  how he begged on his knees, asking,"If you ARE willing, you can make me clean."  Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I AM WILLING" he said "BE CLEAN' Mark 1:40-41.

I have to admit, I have been greatly challenged in this area myself and have come to the conclusion that healing is for today. Why do we have doctors and physiologist, etc, if God intended His children to remain sick?  I have also asked myself these questions, "Why do we raise money to find cures for diseases, and where do I think all the intelligence for learning and information about medicines comes from, if it wasn't from the mind of the ONE who created man and knows him so well? Does God really need doctors, physiologists, medicine and education to heal His creation?  I don't believe He does, but out of His great mercy and kindness, He will extend His healing love to us, even in our unbelief.

Jesus is the healer and by His stripes we are healed. He is a good God, and loving Father. Jesus said in Matthew 7:11,  "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much MORE will your Father, who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"

Psalm 107:20 says," He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction."  Jesus is the WORD made flesh and is the same yesterday, today and forever. Sin, sickness and disease may invade our bodies, but it doesn't have to remain.

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our FAITH.
Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?( 1John 5:4) It doesn't mean that we won't get sick, but when we do, to mediate on the truth that Jesus took the consequences of Adam's sin on Himself and gave us His healthy body in exchange.  By faith, we are healed in His time and for His glory.
